Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) provides expertise and leadership at the University of Maryland to guide and support the work of equity, diversity, compliance, and inclusion. The following units are within ODI: ADA/504 Compliance, Bias Incident Support Services, Diversity Training and Education, EEO Compliance and Search Equity, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct, Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE), and TerrapinSTRONG. The Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct (OCRSM) also reports to the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion.

The business function of the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion ensures compliance with the university’s policies and protocols across all business areas, including fiscal and human resources management.

The Business Coordinator will manage personnel activities, including but not limited to creating appointments in the designated systems, creating payroll adjustments/transactions for employees. This position will serve as search coordinator and provide search guidance. The Business Coordinator will route the posting to fill vacancies through the designated systems and provides guidance throughout the search and selection process and responds to requests. The Business Coordinator will support all aspects of procurement and travel activities. This position will report to the Director of Administrative Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Experience:
Three years’ experience providing business, operational or human resources support in an office environment, including two years’ experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience working in business systems and databases (e.g., Workday, Kuali Financial System (KFS), Concur, PHR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal and budgetary principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and travel policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and work with deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advance user of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Intermediate to Advance user of GSuite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, MOUs and provide guidance.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with students, staff and faculty from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identity groups.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact while maintaining strict confidentiality.

  • Passion for supporting marginalized and historically underrepresented student populations and community members.
  • University experience is preferred, but not required.

Additional Information:

• Salary will be $58,656 to $65,000 and commensurate with experience.
• Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work performed in an office environment. Regularly required to travel to meetings, events, etc. both on and off campus. Ability to travel both on and off campus, domestic and international. Regularly required to communicate and exchange information and to use technology/devices. Ability to attend events, meetings, trainings after normal business hours. Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
