Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Application Database Administrator (DBA) is a member of Enterprise Data Services (EDS) in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The position has responsibility for providing comprehensive database optimization and administration for enterprise level, cross-campus services.

The position is responsible for

  • Configuring and maintaining Postgres, oracle databases (AWS RDS), MSSQL (Azure), Redshift data warehouse platform, including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, security (audit), optimization and SQL tuning.
  • Analyzing and guiding customers with SQL, PostgreSQL Queries for the application requirements which includes writing of SQl and PostgreSQL
  • Providing 24×7 support for critical production systems.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Configuring and maintaining the Denodo data virtualization tool
  • Independently analyzing, solving, and correcting issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end and prompt customer service.

This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
  • 4 to 7 years of Database Administration experience primarily with Postgres, Oracle (AWS RDS) Redshift and MSSQL databases.
  • Experience in writing SQL queries and PL/SQL scripts.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining Denodo data virtualization tool

Knowledge , Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Postgres (AWS RDS) , Oracle ( AWS RDS) , MSSQL and Redshift databases.
  • Skilled in SQL/PostgreSQL query tuning and Database Tuning, analyzing database performance reports and recommending best practice for SQL code deployment in production environments for database optimization.
  • Must be able to work independently and concurrently on multiple projects, adjust rapidly to occasional significant changes in priorities, and respond efficiently and effectively 24 by 7 for critical production systems.
  • Proficient with Oracle and Postgres databases, including configuration, availability, deployment, security(Audit), Backup and Recovery (Datapump), Monitoring and Vector data.

Salary range $115,000-$130,000

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus.
