Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining an up-to-date comprehensive financial aid training plan for new staff, peer counselors, and University partners. The Assistant Director is a subject matter expert responsible for executing a training plan effectively to ensure all staff, both full time and our Peer student employees receive initial and ongoing training. This position also coordinates and leads the weekly Division of Financial Aid staff training. It is also responsible for training staff on financial aid system processes and policies, and with minimal oversight, analyzes, reviews, submits policy / process changes for review, and documents financial aid policy related to financial aid Counseling and Client Services policies and procedures in manuals housed in OneNote. The Assistant Director will also support the Athletic Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Administrator and will assist the GIA Admin to document financial aid policy related to GIA for Student Athletes policies and procedures in the Athletic manual in OneNote. This position will participate in Review Committee appeals.


 

This position is expected to take an active part on the Division of Financial Aid counseling team that consists of assisting students and their families via phone, email, in-person and virtually and to participate in outreaches, meeting our students where they are.

What You'll Be Doing :
  • Counsel students and their parents on Financial Aid topics through phone calls, emails, virtual counseling (Zoom) and in our office.
  • Aid the GIA Administrator in counseling student athletes as needed and documenting GIA policy/procedures
  • Follow and stay up to date on Federal and State regulations, NASFAA news and other financial aid resources
  • Act as a resource for lower-level staff members
  • Coordinate training for new staff, peer counselors and University partners
  • Organize and integrate other financial aid areas and other university areas into the new staff training to train on their specific programs
  • Coordinate Quarterly All Staff meetings, develop agenda and training ideas, facilitate those meetings
  • Maintain a comprehensive training model
  • Maintain and update training documents
  • Arrange, schedule and lead weekly Division of Financial Aid staff training to ensure staff are informed with updates and important information
  • Serves as a member of the management team within the Division of Financial Aid for daily operations
  • Act as subject matter expert to the team and continuously mentor new staff, peer counselors, and University partners
  • Submit new policy proposals with the intent to improve policies and processes and to ensure continued compliance with federal regulatory guidance, assist GIA Administrator to comply with NCAA and BIG TEN regulatory guidance and to document policies/procedures in OneNote
  • Assist Asst Dir of Compliance in documentation of all DFA policies and procedures in OneNote
  • Help staff in updating documentation including policies and procedures manuals as the back up to the Asst Dir Compliance
What We Are Looking For:

Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in customer service or comparable experience.


Skills needed:

  • Strong writing and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Have good interpersonal skills, ability to work as a team member.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
