Environmental Project Specialist (Hybrid Schedule)

Primary Purpose:

Primary support role in organizing and tracking environmental requirements for various large-scale project activities supported by the Environmental Services Department. Effectively and accurately communicate key environmental project information to project team and ensure key stakeholders are informed about project status and issues that may impact progress or stakeholder relationships. Assist with tracking and coordinating environmental compliance tasks, programmatic permit metrics and/or project specific reporting requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support project planning and permitting activities and issue project environmental releases for projects including, but not limited to: the organization and preparation of environmental documents (e.g. Pre-activity Survey Report) to support the use of existing permits; and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts, etc. to support issuance of environmental releases and closing of environmental prerequisites in SAP.
  • Support environmental project managers and staff with scheduling contractor support on projects (e.g. monitoring or surveys), tracking construction status (project start and end) for permitted projects. Provide status reports to identify and track permit requirements triggered by construction starts or completions to ensure compliance requirements are completed. Track environmental data requests and support subject matter experts and environmental project managers with providing timely responses.
  • Oversee and manage project and permit documentation and support project closeout process including, but not limited to: collaboration with stakeholder Document Control groups to ensure environmental records are received and filed in company's system of record and tracking key permit records to support permit reporting requirements.
  • Track and update project progress and utilizing program databases; develop reports and presentations for management as required. Support project teams with agency notifications, as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in project meetings, draft meeting agendas, record meetings minutes, track action items and ensure completion to support progress.
  • Support development and tracking of project scopes, budgets, key environmental deliverables, and schedules. Identify existing internal charging orders for projects or create new charging orders for projects. Work with project leads and contractors to ensure scope and budget adjustments are completed in timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental and cross-departmental initiatives aligned with Company strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Environmental Management, Accounting or other related field, or equivalent experience and/or training.
  • 3 years - Experience in providing support to project management team on projects with variable levels of complexity including large-scale construction projects or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera, SharePoint, SAP, ProCore, and Enterprise Contract Management is desired. Intermediate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to interact independently with all levels of management, administrative and union personnel.
  • Proficient in data collection and information management with strong organizational, analytical, written and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with the utility industry and large-scale energy infrastructure project licensing/permitting, public affairs, environmental and regulatory compliance, contracting, scheduling, budgeting, general project controls, and construction is desirable.

HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 3 days per week onsite.
