Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dean of University Transfer Liberal Arts and in collaboration with other faculty, the ECE Instructor will teach in the Early Childhood Education program but may also be part of developing and instructing within Foundations of Teacher Education or Inclusion Credential programming or facilitating apprenticeship models of any of the above.

A typical teaching assignment for a 100% appointment would be 11-12 – three credit courses as well as professional service to the College over three academic terms (fall, spring, and summer). Responsibilities will be both online and at the Rhinelander Campus and designated outreach locations, including sovereign tribal communities. Faculty maintain availability to students, develop and maintain curriculum and programs, and actively participate in the diverse communities served by the College.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This list is not all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
Instruction:
•Develop, maintain, and deliver instruction in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophy of Nicolet College.
•Deliver instruction as assigned online and occasionally via distance technology and/or on the main campus or other outreach locations to a variety of class sizes during the day or evening, on weekends, and through distance learning.
•Use technology, including multiple delivery methods, to enhance teaching and learning, as well as other aspects of work.
•Maintain instructor availability hours and other regular and substantive interactions supporting student success.
•Maintain accurate and timely student records and submit required reports according to published deadlines.

Instruction-Related Support:
•Assist college success coaches in offering ECE students advice regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.
•Work with other ECE faculty to maintain program classrooms, labs, and resources. Compile inventory, maintain materials and equipment, and monitor student use of materials.
•Recruit, train/mentor, and supervise work study students.
•Building new and strengthening existing relationships/articulation agreements with local PK12 school districts and four-year universities, development of dual credit agreements, and strengthening recruiting/retention efforts to grow the College’s ECE program.
•Collaborate with the Community Education department to create/facilitate credit and contract training for local and tribal childcare providers.
•Building and strengthening connections with community agencies, tribal governments, and other ECE partners.
•Represent the College at Wisconsin Technical College System ECE curriculum revision meetings.
•Develop, maintain, and report Technical Skill Attainment documentation for the ECE program.
•Administer assessments of program and institutional learning outcomes and report/analyze data derived from these in the way prescribed by the team.
•Maintain currency in understanding the education-related issues of traditionally marginalized student groups, including but not limited to Indigenous students, as well as best practices in closing any instructional equity gaps.

Professional Development and Service to the College:
•Share perspective with students regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.
•Develop and improve ECE offerings by collaborating with other team faculty and administrators through program reviews, curriculum and course development, and assessment of student learning of course competencies, program outcomes, and the College’s core abilities. 
•Participate in UTLA team activities and meetings as well as ECE-specific meetings.
•Collaborate with the supervisor during the performance appraisal process and pursue professional development that is discipline-specific, enhances teaching and learning practice, and expands expertise in other academic fields of interest to the faculty member and the College. 
•Meet and maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements as required by the Wisconsin Technical College System. 
•Maintain professional affiliations and certifications including currency with WI state training embedded in ECE programming (e.g., WMELS Pyramid Model, etc.). 
•Aid the student recruitment and retention activities.
•Play a part in college-level activities, projects, and committees, connecting us to Nicolet College students, staff, and faculty outside of the ECE team.
•Participate in events and collaborations that connect the college with district high schools, universities Nicolet students transfer to, community members, and employers.
•Participate in program advisory committees. 
•Represent the College at Wisconsin Technical College System curriculum revision meetings and state-called annual meetings.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of effective online teaching practices.
•Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to teach all courses in the state-aligned Early Childhood Education curriculum.
•Ability to inspire, motivate, and effectively teach students of varied ages, learning styles, academic levels, and diverse backgrounds.
•Ability and motivation to work both independently and collaboratively.
•Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships across the College and in the district.

Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree or higher with major in Early Childhood Education OR a closely related field (though a master’s degree is preferred) 
•At least 1 year (2,000 hours) as an instructor in Early Childhood Education OR at least 2 years of verifiable teaching experience at the post-secondary level in an Early Childhood Education teacher program.
•Successful experience with alternative delivery methods that may include asynchronous online, videoconferencing, hybrid, or field observation courses.


Preferred Qualifications:
•A combination of successful teaching experiences made up of those mentioned in the section above or also Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.
•Successful experience with teaching coursework related to a Foundations of Teacher Education degree AND/OR Inclusion Credential coursework.
•Facilitating apprenticeship models of preparing ECE instructors.

•While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal classroom and office conditions and usual office equipment.

•The employee will be frequently required to sit, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers) and reach with hands and arms.
•The employee must occasionally move up to 10 pounds of general office items.
•Specific hearing abilities required by this job include hearing normal speaking-level sounds.
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.
•This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.
