The Department of Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor of Visual Arts to promote and encourage student success through high quality instruction and real-world learning experiences. We are looking for a collaborative educator who has experience in a variety of contemporary pedagogies and practices, and who can teach multiple fields in the discipline of Visual Arts beginning Fall 2025.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor of Visual Arts will develop, prepare, and teach a variety of disciplinary methodologies, technologies, practices, and content. Teaching assignments may include the following: Art Appreciation, Art Fundamentals, and a variety of elective courses in the visual arts. This position is expected to work closely with other faculty in helping students achieve General Education Learning Outcomes and prepare for transfer to further study. Additionally, the Assistant Professor is expected to maintain an active and engaged campus presence, assisting with various college initiatives and activities. This position is a 9-month faculty position with a contractual obligation to teach 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring. Summer instructional opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need. The Assistant Professor must also have the flexibility to teach courses during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats.

The starting salary for this position is $48,360. Any salary amount above this is commensurate upon an individual’s qualifications. As a full-time employee, the incumbent will incur many college paid benefits, including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.

  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.

  • Collaborates with the Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content.

  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.

  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.

  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.

  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.

  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.

  • Appropriately documents student progress in clinical sessions and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes and proctors exams for Nursing programs.

  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students’ progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.

  • Supervises, evaluates, and mentors students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings.

  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.

  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Reports to: Chair, Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A master's degree in Art (MFA) or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Proven excellence in teaching at the collegiate level; experience mentoring undergraduate populations; experience with fabrication technologies and techniques in 2D and 3D media; and experience at student-centered and open access institutions.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess.
