The IT Systems & Support Administrator at Alamance Community College is a crucial role that merges the technical responsibilities of system administration with the user-centric focus of PC support. This position ensures the reliable operation of the college's computer systems and network infrastructure while providing direct technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students. Example of Duties
System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, network devices, and IT infrastructure specific to an educational setting.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high levels of system and infrastructure availability.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access to educational resources and services.
- Implement security measures to protect data and ensure the safety of online learning environments.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers as needed for system maintenance and upgrades.
- Assist in the deployment and maintenance of learning management systems (LMS) and other educational software.
PC and User Support:
- Provide responsive technical support to faculty, staff, and students, addressing issues related to computers, software, and network access.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for end-users on IT resources, cybersecurity awareness, and best practices for technology use in an academic environment.
- Maintain an inventory of IT assets, including computers, projectors, and other peripheral devices, ensuring they are updated and functioning properly for educational purposes.
Typical Qualifications
- Associates's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working in an IT role within an educational or academic setting preferred.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and systems administration with a focus on educational technology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic educational environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Professional, Google Administrator) are highly desirable
Working Conditions:
- Primarily based on the community college campus with the need to travel between different buildings and classrooms as required.
- Standard working hours with occasional evenings or weekends for system upgrades, maintenance, or emergency support.
