Summary of Position
Under general supervision of the Histology Supervisor and Managing Director, this position is tasked with the management and conducting daily operations associated with the histology section of the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NHVDL).

Duty/Responsibility
Perform daily operations associated with routine high volume histological processing, including grossing tissue samples, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining. Use independent judgment to operate, maintain and troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment. Provide the quality assurance, accuracy and timely results expected with medical specimens.
Assist histology supervisor in the supervision of part-time hourly and student technicians. Provide back up coverage for some of the histology supervisor duties when needed.
Duty/Responsibility
Keep current with new histology methods and technological advances. Maintaining any histotechnician (HT) certification obtained from the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

Assist other laboratory sections as needed. Cross training within those sections to obtain the proper credentials for required testing.
Duty/Responsibility
Follow histology protocols in documentation and document handling in accordance with the laboratory’s quality management system. This includes standard operating procedures (SOPs), training records, daily quality control and maintenance logs.
Duty/Responsibility
Reagent/solution preparation and disposal/recycling of chemical waste. Maintain required certification training as a hazardous waste handler. Retain an adequate inventory of all consumable products relating to histology. Evaluate and recommend vendors when purchasing reagents and equipment needed for histology.
