Introduction to the job

ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices inChandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.

This role is for current students typically enrolled in a co-op course or formal co-op program at school that may receive college credit. They will be expected to work on-site with a fulltime schedule for the academic term (starting January 2025).

Role and responsibilities

The Mechanical Test Engineer Co-Op is expected to work in a lab environment developing mechanical designs and executing tests with the San Diego Test and Measurement Facility. The engineer will be expect to:

  • Generate design and test concepts to achieve the desired goal.

  • Perform 3D mechanical design of components.

  • Work with other engineers, analysts, and CAD designers for prototype and pilot detailed design.

  • Interact with machine shops or other suppliers to manufacture and procure custom hardware.

  • Perform hands-on lab work in a team environment.

  • Build and operate vacuum & thermal test setups for different projects and modules.

  • Interface with engineers to support special tests and experiments with detailed instructions.

  • Use standardized tools and electronic equipment (i.e., torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic screwdrivers and ball drivers, lifting equipment, computers, oscilloscopes) to assemble/install/remove or perform testing and troubleshooting

  • Read and understand business documents such as Bill of Materials, routing sheets, inventory records and work instructions.

  • Document work results.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Requires current enrollment with good standing at an accredited college and pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines.

  • Experience using 3D CAD software, Nx preferred

  • LabView proficiency is a plus

  • Ability to execute a design from concept through build and hands on testing

  • Extensive hands-on experience on vacuum, plasma, and high-temperature systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical issues and ideas to peers and management.

  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems and solutions through written and/or graphical formats.

  • Strong logical reasoning

  • Proficient in MS Office Applications specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Strong programming and data analysis or system modeling/simulation experience
