Description
This is a full time, year round position. This person is responsible for operating a developmentally appropriate early childhood education classroom in cooperation with ECE Associates and Lead Associates. They assist in the development and implementation of learning experiences for individual and groups of children within a specified age range, ensuring children’s portfolios and other standards are up to date through daily communication and conferences.
Job Duties

Function as team member with other Children Center teachers to promote, develop, and deliver a quality early childhood education program that is in the best interests of the children, families, program and the college

Adhere to professional and ethical standards in early childhood by exhibiting a positive and professional attitude that contributes to a productive oriented environment

In cooperation with Lead Teacher; organize, plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in an early childhood classroom

Prepare, post and implement daily and weekly lesson plans for assigned classroom. Lesson plans should reflect documented goals and objectives for the children in the classroom

Maintain and model an open communication network with the Lead Teacher, Director, staff and ECE program faculty to meet the needs of children, families, students and the program

Report parent or child concerns to the Director. Report ECE student concerns to the Director and /or ECE program instructor

Assist in the supervise ECE students completing their labs and practicums experiences in the Center, serving as a role model of developmentally appropriate early childhood practices

Utilize various assessment instruments in cooperation with the Director, ECE program, and staff to assess children’s development and learning.

Coordinate with the Lead Teacher to complete two parent teacher conferences per year, per child.

Treat all children, students, staff and parents with dignity and respect

Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, students and colleagues

Arrange and rotate classroom materials, with the assistance of the Lead Teacher, to uphold a high level of NAEYC, IQ4K and Iowa Early Learning Standards to ensure a developmentally appropriate classroom environment

Maintain program equipment, making reports of repairs as needed to director

Responsible for general housekeeping tasks of the center, proper use and clean-up of equipment and areas, including laundry tasks, kitchen cleanup, storing of equipment and playground

Other duties as assigned

Know, understand and abide by Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Regulations

Know, abide by and enforce Center, departmental, and college regulations as explained in Children Center College Student Handbook and Iowa Western Community College Administrative Procedures Manual

Maintain accurate records of accidents and injuries and administration of medication of children
-
Demonstrate punctuality in completion of requests by the Director and Early Childhood Studies Instructors

Complete playground safety checks and monthly fire and tornado drills

Participate in scheduled Children Center Staff development activities and staff meetings, family activities and Family Advisory Board functions

Initiate and pursue a professional growth plan that meets the guidelines outlined in the DHS Child Care Licensing Regulations with a minimum 10 Clock Hours per year. Responsible for tracking Clock Hours

Initiate and pursue professional growth plan that meets the CACFP regulations with a minimum of 2 Clock Hours per year
Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field required.

Experience working in a group setting with children ages birth to five.

Must pass a pre-employment Iowa Criminal Records check and Iowa Child Abuse Registry check

Must be able to pass a physical medical exam required by Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Regulations

Ability to present information both verbally and in writing in a professional manner

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities in a diverse community

Ability to use cleaning equipment and supplies

Ability to pass a drug screen if applicable

Physical Demands

The employee frequently is required to stand for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
