Summary of Position

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice Provost of Career and Professional Success (CaPS) and the Dean of the Paul College, the Career Director provides leadership and direction for CaPS in the college. The Career Director is responsible for advancing the CaPS and college missions and strategic objectives, as well as setting operational objectives for the college CaPS team:

Imbue career preparedness across the entire UNH community to equip our students with the experiences, knowledge, and skills to thrive in an ever-changing future.

Strategic Objectives
  1. Partner with faculty and staff to integrate career and professional success into the UNH experience
  2. Consider the broad spectrum of students to effectively deliver the highest level of impact
  3. Actively engage a variety of employers to increase access to high quality jobs and internships
  4. Prepare students to proactively engage in their post-graduate success
College Career Directors advance the CaPS strategic objectives in appreciation of the uniqueness of their individual colleges.

Master’s degree in (career counseling/career development, college student affairs, higher education, human resources, social work) or related field.

Five (5) years of progressively responsible career related professional experience.

Duty/Responsibility

Strategic/Leadership

  • Sets overall college strategic direction and signature focus areas consistent with CaPS and college mission and strategic objectives and sets/aligns operational objectives
  • Establishes targets for metrics/measures – assumes accountability
  • Manages the day to day college Career and Professional Success capability. Supervises staff; optimizes technologies, delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate; modifies short- and long-term goals as needed
  • Owns adoption of Wildcat Way to Professional Success in college
  • Represents college in various professional organizations and addresses a wide range of constituencies as chief spokesperson for college’s career team – faculty, alumni, parents, employers
  • Contributes to rankings/accreditations processes, as relevant
  • Leads projects and initiatives as determined by Associate Vice Provost

Duty/Responsibility

Partnerships

  • Works in close partnership with Deans to align priorities and identify signature student and employer offerings
  • Builds Department Chair and faculty partnerships to integrate Career and Professional Success into the academic experience
  • In coordination with the college Development team, networks with alumni; builds programs and partnerships between alumni and students
  • Collaborates with the college Dean’s Office to assist with the planning an execution of college events such as Admitted Students Visit Day, Orientation, Undergraduate Research Conference, and others as relevant/required
  • Owns strategic campus partnership(s)

Duty/Responsibility

Data
  • Continuously grow capacity and capacity of staff and other stakeholders to use data
  • Be metrics and ROI driven – use data to inform decisions and challenge the status quo
  • Demonstrate curiosity and use of available data/dashboards
  • Tell data stories to elevate CaPS– peers and leadership
  • Cultivate a culture of data use

Duty/Responsibility

Operational

  • In collaboration with all stakeholders (deans, faculty, staff) alumni, etc.), determines annual and ongoing priorities for office, working diligently to bring these priorities to fruition
  • Forms and actively participates in committees, organizations, and groups charged with moving office forward on many fronts (e.g. marketing, advancement , etc.)
  • Encourages and plans professional development activities for staff
  • Prepares the annual operating budget and monitors monthly activity
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, creates programs, services, and publications to meet student career needs
  • Increases adoption of CaPS technologies to scale services

Duty/Responsibility

Employer Relations

  • Serves as relationship manager for a portfolio of employers including strategic partners
  • Adheres to Salesforce procceses, protocols and reporting requirments
  • Leads efforts to build employer partnerships – keeps focus on NH employers in mind
  • Proactively develops and implements strategies designed to increase employment and internship opportunities for students and graduates
  • Advises and counsels employers with identifying potential job candidates to meet their specific needs, including, but not limited to campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, class/organization presentations, and resume searches
  • Tracks job market demand, use of career services, and hiring results for students in various academic majors within the college; formulate strategies for achieving greater participation rates for those majors that underuse available career resources
  • Conducts employer visits to determine hiring needs and promote the college’s students and alumni as candidate pools
  • Ensures optimization of CaPS technologies

Duty/Responsibility

External Outreach

  • Establishes partnerships with national, state, and local organizations and groups tied to college industries for the purposes of professional development, knowledge sharing, and to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Partners across campus on workforce development efforts
  • Tracks labor market legislation and economic indicators ( employment figures, pay transparency, workplace safety, etc.)

Duty/Responsibility

Counseling & Teaching

  • Counsels students on an individual and group basis regarding career planning and employment
  • In coordination with the career team, develops and delivers career-related programs and activities
  • Teaches career courses when established as an engagement strategy and priority in the college – not to exceed 4 credits per academic year. (These teaching responsibilities are expected to be “in load.”)
Caseload may differ semester-to-semester to accommodate teaching schedule.
