Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Director of Information Systems is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the college’s information technology systems and services. The Director provides strategic, college-wide leadership, planning, project management, and other support for effective and efficient use of technology to meet the instructional and administrative needs of the college. The Director of Information Systems reports to executive level leadership.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the protocols and operational areas of information systems as delineated above.
- Progressively responsible, successful experience in higher education administration, particularly in the areas encompassed by this directorship, with demonstrated results in managing people and tasks in a highly complex work environment.
- Proven leadership and solid, progressively responsible experience and technical knowledge in the design, implementation, operation, and support of network infrastructure for voice, video, and data services and/or enterprise resource planning systems with demonstrated results in managing people and tasks in a large, highly complex organizational structure, with experience in a multi-campus community college setting preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and deliver on time.
- Ability to prepare and manage multiple budgets and spending plans.
- Demonstrated strong written, oral and listening skills, including translating complex technical issues to audiences of varying skills and background.
- Excellent technical knowledge and analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing logical business judgment to identify complex system issues and coordinate an effective resolution.
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and communication skills necessary to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a large, highly complex organizational structure, with experience in a multi-campus community college setting preferred.
- Demonstrated awareness of new and emerging technologies and how they may be used to create more efficient operations throughout the college.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various administrative database systems and how they interrelate within the management functions of the college.
- Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the comprehensive mission of the community college.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
