Grants & Contracts Financial Business Analyst
Job Description
The Grants & Contracts Financial Business Analyst in the Department of Anesthesiology will prepare financial management reports, conduct special accounting and finance projects, Provide financial analysis and financial forecasting to all levels of management, and will independently complete pre-award and post-award administration of research grants &/or contracts.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assists faculty and staff in securing competitive and non-competitive grants and contract proposals.
- Ensures all proposals, awards and agreements are in compliance and consistentant with federal and state laws and regulations, University policy and practice, research compliance restrictions and guidelines, financial and academic requirements, and agency policies and procedures.
- Prepares and monitors budgets with faculty for research and clinical studies.
- Assists in negotiating terms and conditions with sponsoring entities for proposals, awards, cooperative agreements and sub-contracts.
- Significant efforts in preparation and analysis of financial information and reporting to various stakeholders across the organization.
- Participates in the establishment and maintenance of operational processes.
- Audits accounting information, reconciles data, and resolves problems or recommends solutions when appropriate.
- Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting processes and departmental operations.
- Assists with the month-end financial management processes, reconciliations and reporting.
- Provide training on financial issues or procedures or provide guidance to other staff and faculty.
- Proficient with the full range of proposals submitted by the department. Proficient with the full range of award administration activities, including award set-up, modification, and maintenance.
- Ensures federal compliance by reviewing procedures/policies. Provides recommendations for updates in procedures/policies.
- Subject Matter Expert in a variety of Grants & Contracts activities, including but not limited to general feedback on industry contract review, content contribution, etc.
- Makes substantive contributions to trainings, process development, and unit resources.
- Consistently works on highly complex problems requiring independent action and decision making. Must determine best course of action to resolve problems and frequently makes recommendations for improvement.
- Knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.
An advanced degree, such as a Master's of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.
