Interventionist

Job Description

The FRESH Study at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is looking for Interventionists with the primary responsibility of working with restaurant owners and other staff to implement the FRESH intervention. These Interventionists will be trained by the FRESH Team to engage with restaurants in high food priority areas in Baltimore that were selected to participate in the study. Interventionist must travel to restaurants in healthy food priority areas of Baltimore on a regular basis and be willing to work independently but also be a team player. Work will involve relationship building with restaurants staff, data collection and documentation, and intervention program implementation.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage intervention implementation according to FRESH study protocols under the supervision of the project coordinator.
  • Attend weekly staff updates.
  • Assist in program support, and administration activities (filing, scheduling, etc.).
  • Assist with reports and dissemination associated with intervention activities.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of scholarly journal articles, and the presentation of program activities to funders and community stakeholders
  • Serve as Interventionist in local, independently owned restaurants
  • Serve as liaison between restaurant owners and other members of the FRESH Project Team.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with restaurant owners and staff through practicing active listening and establishing trust.
  • Visit assigned restaurants as needed.
  • Work directly with restaurant owner/manager to tailor FRESH intervention components to each restaurant’s resources, needs, and goals.
  • Develop digital and print media strategies to promote healthier foods at each restaurant.
  • Collaborate with restaurant owners and cooks to modify or develop menu items that are tailored to each restaurant and adhere to FRESH nutritional standards.
  • Collect process evaluation data at every restaurant visit.
  • Contribute to the preparation of written reports and other documentation.


The candidate should demonstrate the following attributes in their work

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with other project team members.
  • Able to quickly gain necessary background understanding in new project areas.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field, preferably in Nutrition, Health Science, Public Health, Behavioral Psychology, Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology.
  • One year of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or Associate’s Degree in nutrition and/or 3-5+ years working in non-chain restaurant industry.
