About the Role:Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain research experience in the world of biotechnology. Our intern program offers exposure to the drug discovery process and translational science. The in vivo research team has a strong reputation in the industry for use of advanced neuroscience techniques to develop novel drugs of CNS disorders. This position focuses on systems neuroscience modalities in rodents to understand the mechanism of novel drugs. The successful candidate will be independently proficient in one of the following techniques: depth recording of spikes, fiber photometry, functional ultrasound imaging, miniscope imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or operant chamber tasks in rodents. You will use those skills during your internship to characterize disease models or understand the MOA of CNS drugs. In the process you will gain deep knowledge in biotech and translational neuroscience.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):Supporting a range of activities, including in vivo and translational research
Design, implementation, and data collection of systems neuroscience experiments
Small animal handling/dosing, drug formulation, surgery
Interacting with other research areas within the company
Collaborating with a mentor team of cross-functional team members as well as the other interns in the class
Co-leading a short project and presenting the recommendations to senior management upon completion
This role is divided between lab-based (vivarium) work, and computer-based (data analysis) work
Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in neuroscience or closely related field (psychology, biomedical engineering, etc.). Applicants who do not fit this criterion will not be considered
Substantial experience in one or more of the following techniques: In vivo electrophysiology to record spikes/LFP, fiber photometry, functional ultrasound imaging (FUSI), miniscope imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or operant chamber tasks in rodents. Applicants without this background will not be considered
Strong data analysis skills in at least one of the modalities above. Programming experience preferred
Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry would be an asset but is not required
Prior animal research experience required
Familiarity with biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes is desirable
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to think creatively and be a team player
Offer flexibility with a willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Bring to the Company a skill set complementary to its technology and development therapeutics
Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more
Ability to commit to a minimum 10-week, full-time summer program
