Senior Port Planner

Job Description

We are actively looking for a Senior Port Planner and Planning Port Project Manager to join our Port Practice in California. The Senior Port Planner will be responsible for leading a team in the planning, analysis, and design of port cargo facilities, with a specific emphasis on terminals, but also with an understanding of Ro-Ro, energy, breakbulk and bulk terminal operations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Understand a Client's needs and respond by putting together a team, a technical approach, and a proposal to solve the client's challenges
  • Develop strategic plan to track opportunities to sell all Moffatt & Nichol services
  • Lead a team in the planning, analysis, and design of port cargo facilities, with a specific emphasis on terminals, but also with an understanding of Ro-Ro, energy, breakbulk and bulk terminal operations
  • Expertise in the planning, operational analysis and design development of terminal operations and infrastructure improvements
  • Identify, analyze, and prepare terminal optimization plans including new handling systems
  • Manage the design and construction administration of new and/or rehabilitated port facilities including backlands, gate, terminal, and wharf infrastructure
  • Perform due diligence studies for new terminals, retrofit terminals and/or port systems
  • Program management including design services management, cost estimating, contracting, and quality assurance
  • Collaboration with various teams within Moffatt & Nichol including:
    • (Region ie. European, US, LATAM) Port Planning and Design staff
    • (Region ie. European, US, LATAM) Simulation & Emulation staff
    • Commercial and Economics group
    • Business Development team.
  • Occasional need to work outside of the country

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Planning; required
  • 10-15 years of planning, architectural, or engineering and management experience relates to ports; required
  • Experience managing projects listed above and developing business with clients; required
  • Ability to mentor and train others
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$123,000 to $150,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California and New York City markets.

Working conditions:

Must be able to work outside, exposed to all weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain. Standing and walking will be required throughout the course of a normal day. The wearing of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, shoes, a safety vest and a hard hat will be required. Other tasks related to cargo management will require sedentary period for computer input and document review. Required to observe all safety and health requirements for terminal environment. Must have a passport or be able to travel internationally.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to navigate terrain and be outside for long periods of time.
