Primary Purpose:
Contributes to Company's energy objectives by planning and executing power and natural gas trades and managing the electric supply portfolio consistent with the Bundled Procurement Plan. Perform fundamental, technical and economic analysis on the both the natural gas and power markets.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for formulating trading decisions based on market dynamics, forecast and price optimization strategies. Works with team to manage and optimize supply/load portfolio as well as negotiate and execute monthly and daily gas and power purchases. Operates within limits of Risk Management policy/procedures and under direction of Electric Fuels Trading Manager.
- Nominates and confirms natural gas schedules on various pipelines to ensure delivery of contracted gas. Manages gas pipeline balancing and monitors intraday usage to avoid imbalance penalties. Supports on-call trading/scheduling and gas accounting as needed.
- Works with team to prepare analysis, respond to data requests, and procurement plans. Manages and performs analytics on optimization models used by team to meet least-cost dispatch obligations. Maintains a working knowledge of derivative valuation, portfolio management and risk analysis concepts. Participates in industry conferences and webinars.
- Presents weekly and monthly briefings to upper management, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Procurement Review Group (PRG). Relays pertinent market information to enable company to stay current with market developments.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree A degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and/or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years - Typically requires experience in the financial or commodity markets in the capacity of trading, portfolio management, portfolio analysis, quantitative analysis or risk management.
- Ability to quickly analyze market information and changing market conditions.
- Strong decision-making skills to guide Company in securing optimized energy products/prices.
- Overall working knowledge of gas/power markets and regulatory environment.
- Strong financial skills such as accounting, calculations, profit and loss, and reporting.
- Proven ability to present material to large audiences and answer questions.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Intermediate skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
