Job Description
The Vertex Fellowship is a unique, one-year training program that provides formal training and experiential learning about the science and business of drug discovery. The fellowship intends to attract outstanding scientists and physicians who have completed their PhD and/or MD degree within the previous 5 years. Fellows join Vertex for a customized yearlong experience in which they are embedded within project teams and gain hands-on experience with real-world R&D challenges. Fellows contribute to our culture of innovation by bringing their ideas to challenge our thinking. The program is directed by our Chief Scientific Officer, David Altshuler M.D., Ph.D., with the involvement of many other Vertex senior leaders.

This program starts in September 2025 and ends August 2026
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidate must have earned a PhD, MD or joint degree
- Demonstrated evidence of scientific impact (e.g., through significant publications, presentations or awards)
- Demonstrated evidence of creative thinking and scientific problem solving
- Interest in the intersection of medicine and drug discovery research
Fellows Program Timeline:
- Applications for the Vertex Fellows 2025-2026 class will be accepted from November 12, 2024 - January 10, 2025, at 5pm ET
- Selected candidates will be invited in February 2025 to interview. Letters of Recommendation will be requested at this time
- Interviews will take place on the first week of March 2025
- Selected Fellows will receive formal offers in mid-late March 2025
- The class of 2025-2026 will start at one of Vertex's research sites no later than September 2025
Pay Range:
$100,000 - $140,000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
