The Leidos Space Division, whose primary products are InfraRed (IR) Payloads that are hosted on satellites in earth orbit, is in need of a Modelling & Simulation (Algorithm) Engineer - Intern to join our San Diego-based team in the summer of 2025. This unique opportunity will allow you to participate in a space program, supporting the research and development of algorithms intended for flight software (designed for use during operational missions). The selected applicant will find challenging work that prepares them for their careers in the space domain and/or with modelling and simulation / algorithm development. This internship will broaden the intern's knowledge with industry standard tools, and provide a mechanism to understand sensor modelling and simulation.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Modelling & Simulation (Algorithm) Engineer - Intern will work in a small team environment, developing portions of the M&S framework, with a primary focus on algorithm development for mission data processing. Further, this engineering intern will build test scripts for the developed algorithms, test the algorithms, and support transfer of the algorithms to the program development teams for implementation and use on future mission payloads.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work from algorithm designs / concepts to develop modules for M&S frameworks, M&S tools, and mission data processing algorithms.
- Perform testing of developed algorithm modules and maintain configuration of the source code, documentation, and test configurations.
- Implement Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git to manage work and collaborate with your teams.
- Provide / author technical documentation.
Basic Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical / Computer Engineering, Math, or Physics from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum two years of experience programming in scripting languages such as Matlab and Python.
- Minimum two semesters of data structures / algorithms coursework.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance. (U.S. Citizenship is required)
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in San Diego, California.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on Linux systems.
- Familiarity with software version control tools (i.e., Git, GitLab, etc.).
- Experience in adaptive signal processing and applied mathematics.

Pay Range:Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
