We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in payroll processing and a strong understanding of financial concepts. PAYROLL SPECIALIST (Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt)
This position involves the preparation of computerized payroll and assisting the Controller in the completion of various duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field of study and two (2) years’ experience in a payroll or accounting role preferred; or any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills to successfully perform in this role.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles, relevant legislature, policies and regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- A minimum of two years payroll experience, required. Experience using Paylocity for payroll functions, preferred.
- Experience with employee benefits and other accounting functions, preferred.
- Must be able to work independently and resolve complex issues in a time-sensitive environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Calculate pay according to hours worked including various leaves and overtime.
- Collect and verify timesheets for accuracy.
- Process payroll and transmit electronically to Paylocity for preparation of checks and direct deposits.
- Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies.
- Prepare monthly payroll and accounting journal entries, including various Balance sheet reconciliations.
- Train all new employees on the use of Paylocity.
- Calculate and administer retirement contributions.
- Calculate and administer taxable fringe benefits.
- Process administrative deposits and back-up for recording wire deposits to the general ledger.
- Calculate and file monthly sales tax returns.
- Serve as back-up for various aspects of purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Perform all other job duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
Employment Requirements
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record, required.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent, required.
- Ability to read, write and speak proficiently in English, required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
