Research Assistant in Mathematical Modeling
Job Description
This position is to a hire a Research Assistant in Mathematical Modeling (Sr. Research Data Analyst) who can develop mathematical models of infectious disease transmission. This project is focused on the role of human mobility on directly transmitted (HIV, HCV, SARS-CoV-2, measles, rubella), vector-borne diseases (malaria, dengue). Particular projects include modeling the role of travel on the spread of malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa, travel and injecting behaviors of people who inject drugs, and developing models able to determine the optimal allocation of vaccines. The position will require the development, evaluation, and investigation of spatial infectious disease transmission models. This position will also involve integrating various data sets (human travel, genomic information, serological status, and case data) to understand effective control policies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- The specific duties will require developing infectious disease transmission models in R, ‘big data’ management, and model fitting.
- The position will require writing scientific manuscripts, public health reports, and scientific presentations.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience developing and using infectious disease transmission models particularly those related to vaccine-preventable and vector-borne diseases.
- Experience in advanced biostatistical and mathematical methods.
- Knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related discipline. Typically require PhD.
- One-year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
- Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
