Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) - HR Director

Sophie Trettevick Indian Health Center

Job Description

Full job description

Overview
The Sophie Trettevick Indian Health Center (STIHC) of the Makah Tribe, located in Neah Bay, Washington provides comprehensive health services to eligible Tribal and community members. STIHC has a staff of approximately 75 clinic employees (as well as a variety of other contractual, temporary, part-time, and volunteer staff) involved in the direct provision of ambulatory and field health care services and in the administration of purchased and referred care for inpatient and other health services not provided directly.

This is an exciting time for STIHC, as the Makah Tribe has decided to allow STIHC to operate as a standalone business. This is a historic action, and will require STIHC to hire a CPO in order to make the transition. We are also in the process of constructing a 16 million dollar new medical facility.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) to build and lead our HR department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes.

Duties
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
- Manage the recruitment and selection process
- Oversee employee orientation, development, and training programs
- Implement and manage employee benefit programs
- Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management
- Handle employee relations, including resolving issues and managing performance
- Lead process improvement initiatives within the HR department
- Utilize Oracle or similar HRIS for data management and reporting

Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required
- Proven work experience as a Director of Human Resources or similar senior HR role
- In-depth knowledge of HR functions such as benefits administration, employee relations, training, and development
- Familiarity with FMLA regulations and other relevant labor laws
- Strong ability to negotiate and communicate effectively
- Experience in process improvement within an HR setting

Due to limited housing options in the area, a housing unit operated by STIHC will be reserved for this position.
