Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Working in close consultation with the Facility Manager, Animal Research and New Facility Construction, this role will provide assistance to the day-to-day operations needed to support the facilities used for the university’s academic and research animal care programs. Works collaboratively with external and internal constituencies to support the highest level of care, compliance and customer service. Assists with the facility manager support of the operation and maintenance support as well as other FM services of the AJ Clark Hall, Brendan Iribe Center, IDEA Factory and other new facilities in coordination with other academically and administratively assigned facility managers.

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.

Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in operations and facility maintenance in a multi-facility complex; at least three (3) of which are directly related to research/laboratory animal facilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of facilities operations (airside/waterside, steam/condensate, lighting/ power, plumbing) strong familiarity with both automated/pneumatic controls, building envelope and architectural finishes.
- Ability to use a computer for basic word processing, electronic communication (e-mail), computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and automated management information systems.
- Ability to evaluate and determine operational needs for complicated facilities.
- Must be able to communicate and coordinate with building occupants, staff, animal care staff, students and facilities management personnel.
- Must be able to provide high levels of customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferences:
- Experience in the role of facility coordinator/manager in a research or laboratory animal facility strongly desired, in addition to experience in a higher education environment.
- Facilities related certification a plus.
Additional Certifications:
Incumbent must possess a driver’s license, as duties may require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points.

The hiring range for this position is $76,800 – $93,000.
