If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team! We are seeking a SCI Security Specialist to help us provide APL and its customers with the best compartmented security support. This position will be a key partner to the Special Security Representatives (SSRs), helping to ensure the Laboratory maintains strong adherence to security requirements and guidelines, establish and create practices and procedures to enhance the Lab’s security posture, and serve as a subject matter expert on personnel security matters.
As a SCI Security Specialist you will...
- Lead the innovation and implementation of cutting-edge Personnel Security (PerSec) solutions for SCI accesses while leveraging progressive technologies and methodologies to enhance security protocols to protect data critical to national security
- Identify current gaps, identify efficiencies and/or new processes to streamline when able
- With only high-level guidance from leadership, create the development of record management, automation, and audits of all SCI security documentation to include, but not limited to PerSec and Physical Security (PhysSec).
- Develop and manage electronic PerSec records to include integration with SIMS, ServiceNow, DISS, NBIS, Scattered Castles and additional databases, as appropriate. Perform quarterly audits of PerSec data to ensure all databases match and reflect reality
- Independently review and propose standardization of security records
- Identify ways to automate and implement enhancements
- Collect, properly arbitrate, and distribute adverse information, spills and security incidents involving SCI cleared personnel or information to include maintaining incident records in AIVI and SIMS for metric reporting and trend identification, in partnership with the SSR and the Facility Security Officer (FSO)
- Expected to partner with the staff members involved, other internal stakeholders and government stakeholders
- Investigates when a security incident occurs, autonomously determining if the incident is a warning, infraction or violation and re-educates staff on security processes
- Innovate and develop new ways to help APL staff with the additional responsibilities of SCI security
- Independently process adverse information reports
- Provide Personnel Security (PerSec) expertise and support for SSRs within the Compartmented Security Group (ZPC) in accordance with 32 CFR 117(NISPOM), Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs), SEADs, and other policies, regulations and processes
- Conduct Scattered Castles clearance verification for APL new hires
- Verify staff have the appropriate SCI clearances for the network access requests (NARs) within ServiceNow
- Liaise with all levels of APL personnel, to include executives and program managers
- Utilize the Foreign Travel Tool (FTT) and SIMS to ensure the foreign travel reports for SCI cleared staff are entered into the appropriate government systems of record
- Partner with other Security Services Department (SECD) team members to develop and disseminate the SCI portion or the Annual Security Refresher training in a method that meets government requirements but also improves the user’s experience
- Develop new training materials specific to APL’s procedures surrounding SCI processes to distribute broadly via e-mail, MyLists, NewsWire, or APLWeb
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have an Associate 's Degree in Business, Information Systems, or a relevant field. Two years of security related or project management experience may be substituted for an Associate's Degree.
- Possess 5+ years of relevant security or project management experience.
- Are able to develop and execute security plans and procedures.
- Possess excellent organizational/communications skills and the ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels.
- Have the ability to collaborate with partners on matters pertaining to security procedures.
- Have proven success in refining and streamlining previously inefficient processes.
- Are results oriented and able to work independently with minimal direction.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Must be willing to take a Polygraph. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have a Bachelor 's Degree or equivalent in Business, Information Systems, or a relevant field.
- Direct experience working as a personnel security specialist or special security representative/officer.
- Have experience utilizing SIMS or other security management tools.
- Have experience utilizing DISS and/or Scattered Castles or other classified databases.
- Have experience working in an organization where partnership with multiple stakeholders is required.
