Job Overview
Join us! We are a small organization that creates opportunities for community building and education within the bleeding disorders community in Minnesota and South Dakota. The Hemophilia Foundation of Minnesota/Dakotas (HFMD) provides programming for all ages, financial assistance and advocacy. It also brings young people together at Camp Not-A-Clot each summer and a Winter Teen Retreat. Our work focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders
The HFMD Board is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into a new era of growth and community impact. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking leader with a strong commitment to community engagement and the ability to drive strategic innovation. This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders to carry out the foundation’s mission, enhance its programs, and expand its reach within the Minnesota and Dakotas regions.
Job Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Outreach:.
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to enhance the foundation’s visibility and influence.
- Implement initiatives to engage and empower the bleeding disorders community, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
- Actively immerse yourself in the bleeding disorders community by participating in events, forums, and support groups to gain a deep understanding of their experiences, challenges, and needs. Foster meaningful connections that inform the foundation’s strategies and programming.
Program Innovation and Development:
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative programs and services that meet the evolving needs of individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders.
- Evaluate and refine existing programs to maximize their effectiveness and impact.
Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to increase financial support from diverse sources, including individual donors, corporations, and foundations.
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to support the foundation’s strategic goals and programmatic initiatives.
Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for HFMD, representing the organization in public forums, media, and community events. Develop strong working relationships and alliances.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that advance the interests of the bleeding disorders community and promote awareness.
Strategic Vision and Leadership:
-Develop and articulate a bold vision for the future of HFMD, aligning with emerging community needs and opportunities.
- Drive the creation and execution of a strategic plan that fosters innovation, growth, and increased impact in supporting individuals with bleeding disorders.
Organizational Growth and Transformation:
- Guide the organization through a period of transformation by embracing new approaches, technologies, and partnerships that enhance its capabilities and reach.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the organization.
Board Relations:
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure alignment with strategic goals and provide regular updates on organizational progress and challenges.
- Provide opportunities for Board development.
Organizational leadership:
- Lead, inspire, and support staff and/or consultants creating an environment that encourages professional growth and maximizes team effectiveness.
- Responsible for the financial, legal and operational systems.
- Create and gain Board approval for a budget reflecting the strategic plan implementation.
Personal Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Commit to ongoing professional development and networking to improve performance and impact yearly, with a focus on becoming a more effective leader and advancing the organization’s mission.
- Travel to visit other foundations, organizations, and industry conferences to stay abreast of best practices, innovative approaches, and emerging challenges facing our community (ie. insurance, gene therapy, research.)
- Apply insights gained from these experiences to enhance HFMD’s strategies, programs, and operational effectiveness
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate as spokesperson and work with diverse populations. Requires exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Broad knowledge of and strong commitment to HFMD’s mission.
- Understanding and experience in fundraising strategies, ideas, and practices
- Skills in strategic planning, fiscal reporting, operational budgeting, directing and managing staff/volunteers, program development, project management and advocacy.
- Ability to travel.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 5 years nonprofit leadership or management experience is preferred- to include program operations, community engagement, advocacy, fundraising, and financial management.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a talent for building relationships and fostering community partnerships .
Work Environment:
We currently operate in a hybrid remote/office environment. Office is in Mendota Heights, MN.
Wages and Benefits:
$95,000 - $115,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications, excellent health/dental insurance and retirement plan.
