Looking for 10 people for a January 6, 2025, Police Academy start date. We will bring you onboard with us around mid-December 2024. This list will also be used for subsequent academy classes. You will be sent to the Police Training Institute (PTI) in Champaign at the University of Illinois. For PTI, you will arrive each Sunday evening and stay in their Residence Halls until the following Friday, only coming home for weekends, should you choose to do so.

New officers start at an hourly rate of $35.70 (which annualizes to $77,968.80). Our current contract will have new hires top out at $51.71 (which annualizes to $112,934.64) by July 2028, before renegotiation. That is prior to any overtime opportunities and extensive holiday pay for holidays worked, as well as extra pay for holidays NOT worked. This typically adds another $10k+ to patrol officers. The position will include 50-mile residency restriction, prior to completing your probationary period.

  • 5-Year officers start at $46.87 ($102,364.08 annually)

We are a 12-hour agency (84 hours every two weeks), so shifts are 7a to 7p and 7p to 7a, which allows for every other weekend to be a 3-day weekend off-duty. We pay for most duty uniform items and laundry. It is an armed position, with a department issued firearm, which makes a FOID card mandatory. New officers almost exclusively get assigned to 7p to 7a.

This position comes with a significant benefit and retirement package through the state of Illinois.
