ABOUT OKLAHOMA CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL FOUNDATION

As an independent 501(c)(3), the Oklahoma City Public School Foundation’s vision is supporting lasting change in OKCPS that improves the quality of education for every student. The mission is to advance excellence, advocate for equity, and build strong community support for Oklahoma City Public Schools. The Foundation’s work is guided by the following core values:

  • Providing innovative teacher, classroom and school support.
  • Supporting efforts to recruit and retain urban-ready teachers and leaders.
  • Building advocates for Oklahoma Public Schools.

The Foundation partners with the Oklahoma City School District, school administrators, teachers and the community in bringing to life innovative programs to serve the 33,000+ students of Oklahoma City Public Schools. Examples of these programs include a Teacher Pipeline Program that is currently preparing almost 100 educators for the workforce, assisting in funding more than $11 million in teacher requests through DonorsChoose since 2014, developing and leading a reading and literacy program that instills the love of reading in students that has provided more than 62,000 books to build students’ home libraries since 2021, and generating community support and funding through flagship events such as Stars of Education where exceptional educators are celebrated and Wall of Fame where distinguished Oklahoma City Public School Alumni are honored.

SUMMARY OF PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER POSITION

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation is responsible for consistent achievement of the Foundation’s mission, annual goals and objectives through financial, program and administrative management. They are the key representative of the organization’s message and vision to the public, key stakeholders and community partners. The Board of Directors and CEO chart the OKCPS Foundation’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for the organization’s services.

MAIN DUTIES

Mission Achievement (Strategic Plan Implementation)

  • Provide overall leadership for establishment and annual review of a multi-year plan that will carry out strategic objectives through annual goals.
  • Oversee an organization capable of meeting or exceeding programmatic objectives.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in public education, nonprofit management and all related sectors.

Board Development

  • Work closely with board leadership to recruit, train and maintain a strong, balanced board.
  • Promote board engagement in critical thinking, strategic planning, resource/financial development, membership development and overall organizational wellness.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison for all board committees including Executive, Development/Public Relations, and Governance Committees. Responsible for overseeing the staffing of all committees.

Fundraising

  • Work with the board of directors and development staff to establish and meet the funding goals of the Foundation, overseeing the design and implementation of both short and long-term fundraising programs for the sustainability and growth of the Foundation.
  • Raise the visibility of the organization through the development and implementation of a sustainable engagement campaign geared to its various constituencies and general public.

Fiscal Management

  • Ensure that the OKCPS Foundation is fiscally sound. Work with Finance committee staff and board to develop and maintain appropriate financial practices. Direct financial activities and make decisions consistent with the strategic plan and adopted policies.
  • Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board of directors in preparing a budget and ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

Staff Management

  • Recruit, manage, inspire and mentor a diverse staff of top-quality people.
  • Prepare for the success of the organization: develop and implement appropriate human resource policies and procedures, including training, career development, hiring and firing, succession planning, and performance management for all staff.
  • Promote an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork and a common organizational vision. Encourage staff development and education and assist staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
  • Lead inclusive annual strategic planning process and ensure planning decisions are used in setting annual program/project goals.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as a public advocate, aware of and involved with citywide and community issues relevant to the Foundation’s mission; acting to both assist educators and students, and to promote social change; collaborate with appropriate organizations to affect this.
  • Position the OKCPS Foundation as a critical friend to the District, City of Oklahoma City, Chamber and other vital partners. Ensure the representation of Foundation programs and points of view to policy makers, task forces, advisory committees, funding bodies and the public.
  • Direct communications, marketing, publicity and media of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant and proven leadership through 10 years in a senior management position.
  • Experience with public relations and fundraising/development.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred.

  • Record of budget development and management.
  • Strong leadership, decision making, interpersonal, planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; solid presentation, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution and meeting management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will be a salaried position, primarily located in-office. However, due to events, programs, volunteer activities and as-needed personal flexibility, there will be times that require remote work and work outside of normal operating hours.

  • Use of a personal vehicle required; legally registered and insured for daily use.
  • Use of a personal cell phone is required.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS

  • Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; life and disability insurance; employer contributions to employee 401(k) accounts; and paid vacation, holiday and sick leave.
