Job Description
Bethune-Cookman University is seeking an innovative, visionary, collaborative, enthusiastic, and student-centered leader to serve as Dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. As the Academic and Administrative officer for the College of Business and Entrepreneurship, the Dean is a member of the Provost’s Leadership Team reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean is responsible for the excellence of the academic programs within the College and oversees decisions pertaining faculty recruitment, program accreditation, research/scholarship, fundraising, budget, and resource allocations.
The Dean is the spokesperson for the College who also leads and executes strategic planning in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan and ever-changing student demographics. The Dean is expected to provide academic leadership in program and curriculum development, maintain/develop successful business partnerships with the industry and community leaders, pursue the vital development of external support and fundraising, as well as to demonstrate a serious commitment to the education of business professionals and leaders.
The ideal candidate should possess a record of academic administrative and teaching excellence, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and inclusive decision-making. The next Dean must successfully engage and work well with various stakeholders – faculty, staff, students, fellow administrators, and community members – in building a vision for the College that emphasizes academic excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Dean plays a significant role in the future of the College, in terms of growth, academic success and community impact. The successful candidate will be expected to have the following:
- Effective supervisory practices to ensure positive employee-employer relationships, and the management of a unit.
- Possess the principles of planning, managing and directing committees, and program related activities.
- Organizational development and administrative, personnel and fiscal management abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of understanding of University and system-wide infrastructure, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of fiscal planning and budgetary management skills.
- A demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to multi-cultural needs, issues and opportunities.
- Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills and strategies in the context of a demanding and time-intensive position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The next Dean of the CBE must hold:
- An earned doctorate or equivalent or appropriate terminal degree.
- Minimum of three years academic administrative experience.
- Experience in ACBSP accreditation, program evaluation and strategic planning.
- Experience in student advisement, recruitment, and retention.
- Experience in securing and overseeing grants and contracts from industry organizations.
- Experience with graduate degree programs and study abroad programs.
- Experience in developing new academic programs.
- Experience in creating and managing budgets.

- Is able to motivate the diverse workforce within the college.
- Understands and use data to enhance and encourage efficiency and effectiveness.
- Can perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
- Has demonstrated achievements in supporting and expanding the development of mutually beneficial industry partnerships and innovative curricular changes that support student success and economic development.
- Has the ability to work effectively with alumni and members of the business community to cultivate fruitful relationships, as well as to build collaborative partnerships to advance the mission, vision and culture of the college.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to shared governance.
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational talents.
