Department: People & Culture – Employee Relations & Operations

Reports to: Associate Director of Operations & Employee Relations

Compensation: $79,907-$84,347 (Grade 11)

Status: 100%, Full-Time, Exempt, Confidential

Probation: 180 days

JOB SUMMARY:
The Employee Relations Advisor at the Los Angeles LGBT Center plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace environment for all employees. The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for overseeing employee relations, engagement, and compliance initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support on employee relations matters, promoting a culture of respect, fairness, and equity, and ensuring compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations. This role will co-lead the management of the administration of leave of absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Serve as a trusted advisor and resource to employees and management on matters related to employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution.

2) In partnership with assigned Business Partner, conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and misconduct allegations, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.

3) Collaborate with departmental managers and supervisors to develop and implement effective strategies for resolving employee relations issues and promoting positive workplace dynamics.

4) Collaborate with colleagues and organizational leaders to develop and implement policies, procedures, and initiatives that support our workforce.

5) Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to equal employment opportunity, harassment prevention, and workplace safety.

6) Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation related to employee relations matters.

7) Advise on and facilitate the resolution of conflicts and disputes promoting open communication and constructive problem-solving.

8) Manage workers' compensation claims, ensuring proper documentation, compliance with legal requirements, and effective communication with affected employees and insurance carriers.

10) Oversee the administration of leave of absence programs, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, Worker’s Comp and other relevant leave policies, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

11) In partnership with L&D team, develop and deliver training programs and workshops for staff and management specifically related to employee relations, conflict resolution, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

12) Stay informed about relevant employment laws, regulations, and best practices, and ensure organizational compliance on employee relations and management matters.

13) Draft, review and propose corrective action communication serving as a guide for managers when support is needed.

14) Serve as a trusted resource and advocate for employees, providing support and guidance on matters related to their rights, responsibilities, and well-being.

15) Collaborate with other team members on special projects and initiatives as assigned.

16) Coaches and trains managers in their communication, feedback, recognition and interaction responsibilities with direct reports, making certain that managers know how to successfully, ethically, honestly and legally communicate with teams.

17) Responsible for updating compliance postings, updating P&C materials, policies and procedures, P&C practices, and other regulations governing the employment relationship ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.

18) Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1) Experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;

2) A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;

3) Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, a related field, or equivalent work experience. Master's degree or Professional HR certification (e.g., CLRP, CPERL, SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.

4) Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in employee relations, HR generalist, or related role, preferably in a nonprofit, social services or healthcare setting.

5) Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices, particularly in the state of California.

6) Ability to successfully navigate and influence within a complex union environment;

7) In-depth knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on California state laws and regulations.

8) Demonstrated experience conducting investigations into employee complaints and grievances, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

9) Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills, with the ability to remain neutral, objective, and tactful in difficult situations.

10) Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

11) Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

12) Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

13) Commitment to the mission and values of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and a passion for advancing LGBTQ+ rights and social justice.

14) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems; experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.

15) Human Resources certification, a plus;

16) Proven knowledge of ERISA, ACA, ADA, FMLA, CFRA, and Workers’ Compensation administration and implications to employee and employer - required.

17) Considerable knowledge of training and development at all levels in an organization to transform employee relations.

18) Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency), a plus.

19) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
