A post-doctoral research associate position is available, starting July 1st , in the laboratory of Dr. Erin Strome in the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Kentucky University.
Northern Kentucky University is a regional Kentucky public university with ~15,000 undergraduate students and a strong focus on undergraduate research. NKU is located 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, OH, and 15 minutes from the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. NKU belongs to the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network which includes ongoing collaborations with the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 24 full-time faculty members and approximately 500 undergraduate students. NKU recently dedicated a $97 million Health Innovation Center (HIC), which includes the new Institute for Health Innovation (IHI) dedicated to drive change that directly addresses urgent unmet health needs. The HIC includes major new laboratory space for molecular genetics, tissue culture, analytical chemistry and advanced microscopy along with a state-of-the-art vivarium.

Our laboratory studies impacts of alteration of methyl donor availability using genetic, molecular biological, and biochemical approaches. Projects will continue work on published projects: doi: 10.1534/genetics.119.302435 and https://doi.org/10.1093/g3journal/jkae002. Research involves genetics and molecular biology work in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae model; experience in one or both is preferable.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Ph.D. (ABD candidates will be considered) with a strong background in molecular biology/biochemistry/genetics and should be capable of conducting standard molecular biology tests including PCR and qRT-PCR, Southerns, and luminescence/absorbance/fluorescence-based measurement experiments, experience with analytical chemistry techniques is highly desired. Candidates with proteomics experience and subsequent bioinformatics analysis are encouraged to apply. The post-doctoral research associate / lab manager will oversee the day-to-day execution of experiments proposed for the funded NIH project and will supervise undergraduate student researchers.
The ideal candidate will have experience supervising undergraduate students and a strong interest in teaching. This position will include opportunities to be mentored in the development of your teaching skills and philosophy, and to teach undergraduate lab or lecture courses. Salary is commensurate with experience but competitive.
