We are currently seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer (7 to 15 years) with California Bridge Design Experience to lead specific project tasks and assist Engineering Managers in the delivery of bridge projects. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and be able to effectively carry out designs, work with diverse specialties and also be able to supervise a team of mid- and entry-level engineers and designers. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
Executes complex assignments relating to planning, designing and preparing construction documents related to bridge infrastructure projects, and ability and experience designing various types of retaining walls, sound walls, and other minor structural systems such as culverts, underground vaults and conduit supports.
The candidate will have experience and/or expertise in the following:
- Pre-cast slabs and I-girder bridges
- Steel girder bridges
- Retaining walls and sound walls
- Foundation slabs and underground structures
- Specialty steel structures for conduit supports
- Bridge inspections and damage assessments
- Bridge rating analysis (inventory and operating)
As a Senior Bridge Engineer, the candidate will apply standard engineering practices and techniques which may include:
- Assisting Engineering Managers in the delivery of bridge and retaining wall projects
- Preparing Preliminary Engineering Reports and Advance Planning Studies
- Preparing Type Selection and/or Strategy Reports
- Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates
- Participating in local professional organizations
- Assisting in marketing business opportunities with key clients and developing responses to RFP/RFQs
- Developing long-term relationships with clients
- Assisting clients with permitting
- Successfully interfacing with multi-disciplinary design teams, including civil site design, environmental, surveying, hydraulics and hydrology, and geotechnical engineering
- Mentoring junior engineers
- Assisting with presentations to governing boards and city councils
- Working with local and state regulatory agencies for project permitting, funding, etc.
- Travelling to project sites and client meetings, with occasional overnight stays, if required
Education/Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's of Science degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited institution, a Master's degree is a plus
Required Skills and Experience:
- Candidates must have at least 7-15 years of design experience performing the above duties with increased responsibilities
- Strong communication and time-management skills are required
- Strong technical writing and communications skills are expected at this level, proven through technical presentations, technical papers, and/or participation in technical committees
- Experience in marketing and preparation of proposal is desired
Desired Skills and Experience
- LEED and/or QSD/QSP desired
- AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and MicroStation knowledge and/or understanding preferred
- Proficiency in the following structural analysis software is highly desirable:
- CTBRIDGE, CSIBRIDGE, CTABUT, VBENT, WINSEISAB, LPILE, SAP2000, PSBEAM, RETAINPRO, and MATHCAD
- Local experience within San Diego, CA and/or Northern CA experience working local agencies and/or Caltrans is a plus
- Experience in preparation of Caltrans and GREENBOOK specification
- Experience in preparation of Engineers Estimate using Caltrans or Local Unit Costs
Certifications/Licenses:
- Driver's License
- California PE is a must; SE is a plus
Job requires ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to plan, prioritize, and review project plans and documents, evaluate alternatives, and select appropriate solutions.

The pay range for this California position is $165,000.00- $200,000 per year. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. .Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
