Position Description:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) works closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and members of the Board of Directors to plan, execute, and manage a comprehensive fundraising operation for Save the Family. Strategies and activities include special events, third-party events, annual fund/direct response, leadership annual giving known as the Champions Circle, major gifts, sponsorships, private grants, planned giving, and special campaigns from individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations, government entities, and other organizations. This position also oversees development operations and services, including prospect and donor tracking and management and donor stewardship.

In addition to overseeing and managing the development function, the CDO oversees the agency’s external marketing (print/web/social) and maintains his/her own portfolio of high-potential individual and institutional prospects and donors, directly engaging them in the organization; and supports and partners with the CEO and Board of Directors in their fundraising activity

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and execution of strategic and annual fundraising plans, including the establishment of fundraising priorities, goals, calendars, and budgets.
  • Direct all fundraising strategies, including special events, annual fund, major gifts, planned gifts, and special or comprehensive campaigns, including direct mail, phone, email, social media, web, events, and face-to-face solicitations.
  • Create and articulate the fundraising case for support.
  • Manage the entire donor/prospect relationship management process, i.e., prospect research, qualification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, foundation, corporate, faith-based, and government prospects and donors.
  • Actively supervise all aspects of the fundraising operation and infrastructure, including policy and procedure development and implementation and the integrity of the donor management information system to ensure all prospects and donors are effectively tracked.
  • Manage the execution of the Board’s fundraising activities/contributions.
  • Serve as staff officer, with the CEO, to the Board of Directors’ Governance Committee; and serve as staff officer to the Development Committee.
  • Manage the CEO’s prospect and donor portfolio and his/her calendar and preparedness as related to fundraising and constituent relationships.
  • Manage and advance his/her own portfolio of prospects and donors.
  • Coordinate any funding opportunities with other appropriate staff, as needed.
  • Develop Marketing Strategy within organization or with Marketing Consultant including a comprehensive development communications strategy.
  • With the CFO, prepare and administer budgets and projections for fundraising and volunteer services.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence, treat everyone with dignity, celebrate the diversity of our community, and be inclusive of all people in our community.
  • Represent Save the Family to individuals, the community and related organizations.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented with track record of consistently meeting annual fundraising goals.
  • A proven major gift officer, with a track record of raising six- to seven-figure gifts.
  • A self-starter possessing excellent relationship management, staff management, and time management skills.
  • A team player.
  • Networking and relationship-building ability.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Adept at managing and mentoring staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising databases and software.
  • Ability to attain a fingerprint clearance card.
  • Possess a clean 39 month driving record.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 4-6 years’ experience in senior development position with strong knowledge of fundraising planning and management; prospect and donor relationship management; fundraising operations, infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with Major Gifts and Annual Giving, Capital Campaign development a plus.
  • Experience in building and growing a development program.
  • Experience with constituent databases and financial reporting.
  • Experience developing strategic plans and implementing programs and systems

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Ability to Relocate:
