Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), performs the following duties: Performs both fundamental and applied research on developing novel metallic alloys and metal matrix composites for structural applications, studying the processing-microstructure-property relationships at various length scales, and studying microstructure and mechanical behavior of additively manufactured alloys. Conducts experiments. Consults scientific literature and discusses with PI and collaborators in order to design and execute experiments that address important questions in the field. Develops, standardizes, and implements specialized techniques. Actively participates in the scientific discussion forums within the Department and elsewhere, such as Journal Clubs and laboratory updates. Presents research findings at national and international conferences. Participates in the training process of undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related areas.
Experience in metals processing and/or additive manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the area of metals processing and characterization, additive manufacturing, and forgings
  • Publications in a relevant area of additive manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
· Proficient in written and verbal communication skills, the ability to make effective presentations, have strong public speaking skills, develop and drive change and effectively communicate change.
  • research and development in processing and characterization of metallic materials using SEM, EDX, XRD, and TEM.
  • Produce metallic materials using mechanical alloying, spark plasma sintering, and additive manufacturing.
  • Design, develop, implement, and modify research plans.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Imaging Software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Detailed oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintain detailed comprehensive records, analyze and organize information, have effective project and time management skills and be well organized.
