START Research conducts the world’s largest Phase 1 clinical trials program for oncology with research facilities located in Texas, Michigan, Utah, and Spain where more than 40 promising new drugs are being tested for the first time. HR Generalist

Job Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including recruiting, onboarding, compliance, employee communications/relations, documentation of company policies and the management of a third-party HR partner on the administration of payroll and benefits.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment
  • Sources and screens to ensure a qualified and diverse talent pool,
  • Collaborates with hiring managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Coordinates and manages the entire recruitment process from job posting to offer negotiation.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications and all related pre-employment requirements.

 

2. Onboarding

  • Facilitates a seamless onboarding process for new hires, including orientation paperwork and introduction to company.
  • Works with various departments to ensure a smooth transition for the new employee.

3. Payroll & Benefits

  • Working closely with a Professional Employment Organization (PEO), manage and sign-off bi-weekly payroll for all employees in the US to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits, addressing discrepancies as needed.

4. Compliance & Recordkeeping

  • Remains up to date on labor laws and regulations to ensure company-wide compliance.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and required licensures. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training; along with HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Maintains all employee information required for employment files and employment standards. This is done via the HRIS system along with some manual files and in compliance with record retention requirements.

5. Employee Communications

  • Creates and manages internal communication channels to keep employees informed.
  • Develops and distributes regular updates on HR related matters, fostering transparency and engagement.

6. Employee Relations

  • Act as point of contact for employee and applicant inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Fosters positive employee relations by promoting a supportive and inclusive work environment.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

7. General HR Responsibilities

  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, engagement and training and development.
  • Provides information on FMLA and Worker Compensation benefits and maintains required postings to the FLSA standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least 5 years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.
