About Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative:

Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative (PSFC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to expanding safe legal access to effective psychedelic healing for as many as possible, as soon as possible, while ensuring care is introduced equitably and reaches those who could benefit most. PSFC was born in 2017 out of a realization that psychedelic treatments have the potential to make an enormous impact and have an achievable path to regulatory approval, but have been systemically underfunded. Philanthropy has a pivotal role to play in the years ahead for psychedelic healing, and PSFC sees delivering safe, effective, and accessible psychedelic care as a critical priority for philanthropic support.

In six years, PSFC has grown into a community of over 125 leading philanthropists dedicated to supporting psychedelic medicine and healing. We operate as a flexible network coordinated by a high-touch organization committed to:

  • Fostering member community-building through both digital and in-person events
  • Advancing educational and support materials for funder-led initiatives and affinity groups
  • Providing advisory, due diligence, and grantmaking support for members in support of their philanthropic priorities
  • Identifying and evaluating high-impact funding opportunities in psychedelic healing

As a donor collaborative, we have:

  • Convened a collaborative network of 125+ members
  • Mobilized resources for psychedelic clinical research and care delivery
  • Published a first-ever landscape assessment of psychedelic philanthropy: PSFC Psychedelic Landscape Report

Executive Summary:

Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative (PSFC) is looking for a trailblazing executive and leader in community engagement and funder relations. This pivotal role on our executive team involves expanding and deepening our network of over 125+ philanthropists, driving strategic connections, and mobilizing support for our psychedelic philanthropy initiatives.You'll be the architect of our member engagement, orchestrating inspiring events and communications that resonate with our community of researchers, advocates, policymakers, and high-net-worth philanthropists. Your mission: to forge impactful relationships and help guide and unlock philanthropic investments in this transformative field. With a mix of charisma, strategic vision, and a passion for psychedelic science, you'll be the linchpin in our vision to bring psychedelic healing to all who can benefit.

Context:

Our world today is experiencing epidemic levels of mental illness. Existing psychiatric treatments fail to address the suffering of the hundreds of millions of people worldwide affected by conditions such as PTSD, depression, and addiction. Emerging research indicates that psychedelic treatments have the potential to be a breakthrough in healing these and other conditions.

Position Overview and Details:

PSFC has set an audacious goal of raising the philanthropic funding needed to ensure safe legal access to psychedelic healing for all who can benefit. The focus and vehicles for assuring this outcome are being defined through a strategic roadmap process underway now. We aim to realize our goals by fostering deep connections with philanthropists and inviting them to engage strategically via our network of funders and partner organizations.

With this role, we will be expanding our member community team by bringing a professional with superior engagement, development and community-building skills. This full time position will expand PSFC membership and meet development goals via fostering personal connections through 1:1 cultivation and outreach, connections between funders/members and leading experts in the psychedelic field, and working with the PSFC team to curate and convene exceptional funder events and fora. This professional will also be the point person on member communications, and oversee PSFC’s CRM database.

As the ideal candidate for the role, you are a natural connector with a warm personality who thrives on bringing people together and fostering community. You are skilled at envisioning and executing on one-of-a-kind gatherings with exceptional attention to detail and a knack for anticipating the unexpected. You are passionate about psychedelic science, have stellar communication skills and make members of our high-net-worth network feel welcomed, carefully attended to, and up to speed on the latest in the psychedelic field. And as a member of a small, dynamic organization, you are grounded, direct, clear, kind, and a team player.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Advancing the PSFC Member and Community Engagement Strategy and 2024 goals.
  • Supporting PSFC’s board, development committee, and founders circle members with their engagement of current and prospective members, including by creating donor and prospect profiles and drafting correspondence.
  • Developing funds from the member base to support PSFC operations and the priorities of the Strategic Roadmap.
  • Deepening PSFC’s engagement with our existing network of members,through communications, events, and individual conversations including by cultivating member participation in PSFC working groups, affinity groups, and coordinating member participation in an array of activities.
  • Curating and organizing events to bring together members of our funder network, including dinners, book discussions, lectures, and retreats.
  • Developing and executing on a plan to identify and engage new funders to grow PSFC’s network in the Bay Area and other key cities.
  • Cultivating relationships with leaders in the psychedelic field, including researchers, medical providers, and advocates .
  • Crafting PSFC’s funder communications across our website, events, and donor-related communications such as PSFC’s annual report and newsletters.
  • Leading PSFC’s funder engagement strategy, including optimizing PSFC’s CRM/contact management system, ensuring it is comprehensive and up to date, and using it to generate strategic insights and opportunities to shape our member engagement strategy. This includes:

- Coordinating volunteers and subgroups within PSFC’s network
- Liaising with our collaborators at grantee organizations and executing on joint events
- Coordinating with other members of PSFC’s team and handling a portion of our shared administrative tasks

Qualifications and Qualities:

  • 5+ years experience in a fundraising, event-planning, or community-building role, ideally at a social impact organization.
  • Mature presence, with taste and personality that donors can relate to; someone who our members would want to spend time with. May have a background as a wealth manager or other professional with executive presence. Carry their star power with humility and are good at building and engaging in a healthy organizational culture.
  • Experience designing and executing exceptional fundraising and educational events for high net worth individuals
  • Proven ability to raise funds in a professional, relationship-centered way.
  • Proven ability to organize multi-day off-site retreats and events with complex logistics
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and manage community, ideally in a fundraising or social impact context
  • Strong project management skills and experience managing event teams
  • A high level of personal integrity and discretion, as well as strong attention to detail
  • Experience with fundraising data management/CRM systems - organized and proactive
  • Excellent writing, funder research, and communication skills
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Ideally knows many members/funders in their own worlds
  • Deep knowledge of the psychedelic field
  • Passion for PSFC’s mission and goals and for advancing psychedelic medicine
  • Candidates could come from the non-profit or for-profit sectors, and have previous senior-level roles (VP, Chief, Head, Director etc.) of People, Community, Philanthropy, Development, Strategic Initiatives, Engagement or related.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $190,000.00 - $205,000.00 per year
