Human Resources Assistant
Elm Community Charter School is seeking a highly skilled and organized Human Resources Administrator. The HR Administrator is a person with strong analytical skills and HR function work, including but not limited to payroll, benefits, leave of absence, and administration of client-level policies. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HR Administrator works well in a fast-paced environment and can work autonomously and collaboratively at times with multiple stakeholders.
Essential Functions & Accountabilities
- Manages all human resources administration, including new hire and end of employment paperwork, certification, salaries, and benefits; tracks sick leaves, vacation, and personal days in accordance with staff enrollment;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of the organization and develops recruitment materials,
- Manages the hiring process for all certified and classified school employees, in cooperation with the leadership team to assure consistency in the school and ensuring compliance with state and federal law and contractual provisions;
- Develops and leads the onboarding and new orientation program;
- Advises/revises school policies and procedures for Human Resources for the Principal’s consideration, to assure consistency in the school, and compliance with laws, regulations and collective bargaining agreements;
- Provides training to the school administration to ensure that personnel policies and procedures are understood and implemented fairly and appropriately;
- Supervises the preparation and complete in an accurate and timely manner state and federal reports for compliance;
- Participates in staff meetings and follow-up action based on labor-management discussion/meetings works proactively to resolve issues before they become formal grievances and utilizes problem-solving and meditation techniques to bring about resolution where appropriate;
- Attends professional growth sessions to keep his/her professional Human Resources knowledge current with changing laws and regulations;
- Work with Leadership on employee relations issues including investigations of alleged misconduct and other personnel issues and completes investigations and oversees outside contracted services as appropriate;
- Provides appropriate information to staff, prepares legal personnel-related documentation (including employment statements of hiring disciplinary procedures, and terminations of employment), and maintains up-to personnel files.
- Manages employee records and files, the HR portal, PTO, and payroll;
- Assist in the preparation of pulling personal files for the yearly audit and conduct an internal audit;
- Producing accurate and detailed reports related to compensation, diversity, EEO data and retention in response to audits, and internal inquiries;
- Assist in codifying current HR department processes and work to streamline and develop a procedural guide to reflect various departmental practices;
- Coordinates or conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations;
- Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school;
- Protects the confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines;
- Manages all compliance responsibilities, including Titles I-V, teacher certification and fingerprinting, safety, fire drills, health, technology, COBRA letters, student lottery, annual Sexual Harassment seminar, and any legal issues
Requirements
- A minimum of three years of experience in Human Resources
- Strong ability to multitask
- Superb conflict resolution skills
- Ability to display integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times
- Strong knowledge of laws and regulations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Prior experience working for a non-profit organization or Charter School preferred

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $57,695.00 - $62,941.00 per year
