Overview:
We are hiring to support our farmer-led sustainability projects. We need an individual who enjoys working directly with farmers to capture the on-farm information needed to drive sustainability projects and support continuous improvement on farms. This position will have the opportunity to travel to meet and work directly with leading farmers and/or crop advisers. Qualified candidates should be self-motivated to continue to learn and understand the needs of the food supply chain in support of FSF’s overall mission.
Essential Duties:
- Lead and support data collection for FSF projects, including agronomic information using tools like COMET-Farm, COMET-Planner and Field to Market’s Fieldprint Platform, and ManureDNDC.
- Work directly with farmers and project partners to collect required data; organize farm visits, conduct phone calls, and correspond via email to get all necessary farm data in specified timeline.
- Lead all aspects of farmer-led group conservation practice survey projects, including review of survey, launch, data collection and analysis.
- Organize, summarize and review data for completeness and accuracy.
- Develop protocols for data collection. Data collected may include fertilizer and manure applications, tillage management, conservation practices used and other field operations.
- Support facilitation of project partner discussions necessary to the success of projects.
- Assist project partners with entering farm management data into tools such as Fieldprint Platform, ManureDNDC, Comet Planner, and others.
- Support farmers in conversations with agronomists, nutritionists, and other technical advisers.
- Ability to support communicating agronomic and environmental information to farmer and consumer audiences. Collaborate with FSF communication staff on various methods to communicate project outcomes to diverse audiences.
- Analyze and distill information for understanding by project participants and stakeholders with support from project consultants.
Education:
- Minimum of two-year technical college degree. Preference given to four-year degree in agronomy, soil science, or farm management discipline.
Experience:
- Prior experience managing multiple projects simultaneously preferred.
- Farm experience a plus
- Agronomic experience a plus, including experience with agronomy software and common farm regulatory software (e.g. SnapPlus).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Willingness to learn and understand sustainability tools such as Field to Market’s Fieldprint Platform and Prioritize, Target, Measure Application (PTMApp)
- Understanding of conservation management practices and tools that can be utilized on farms
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an enthusiasm for agriculture and building relationships with members.
- Demonstrates persistence; doesn't give up. Recovers quickly from setbacks. Keeps a positive attitude in the face of resistance.
- Demonstrated confidence in approaching members or presenting new ideas. Presents information in a way that causes others to listen.
- Flexible style and receptive to change. Learns and adapts quickly.

- Ability to assess a situation and determine the best course of action (Independent judgment).
- Ability to strengthen relationships between all levels of staff through integration of a culture of collaboration.
Additional Information:
- Full time, exempt (salaried) position.
- Overnight travel is required on occasion to facilitate data collection from project participants and develop partnerships.
- Position is dependent on grant funding.
- Position has opportunity to be home-based with travel to Green Bay office required on a regular basis.
- Valid driver's license required.
