ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation is Virginia’s most comprehensive services provider for children with cancer. We make life better for children with cancer by providing financial, educational, and emotional support.
ASK is seeking an Associate Director of Development to oversee philanthropy in Richmond, including but not limited to signature events, the ASK Ambassador program, and community fundraisers while managing a staff person. This includes solicitation of corporate sponsorships, individual donors, committee recruitments, auction procurement, and overall coordination of events throughout the year. The position will report to the Director of Philanthropy.
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40+ hours/week with some evening and weekend hours. The position is based at the ASK office located at 5211 W. Broad Street, Suite 100, Richmond, VA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all aspects of Richmond-based philanthropy to generate revenue to achieve fundraising goals.
- Recruit and guide the Gala Committee to solicit, procure, and prepare the auction to raise funds.
- Recruit and guide the Walk Committee to solicit and secure new corporate walk teams and sponsors.
- Lead and coach staff to exceed annual fundraising goals while securing all logistics and volunteers for Richmond-based philanthropy.
- Build, maintain, and steward a portfolio of donors to sustain and increase the organization’s growth.
- Manage Richmond-based events timeline and budget.
- Sustain and steward corporate sponsors by fulfilling all sponsorship benefits.
- Develop new corporate sponsors to support ASK’s work.
- Work with the marketing team to support and promote ASK’s work through mixed media platforms to increase awareness and revenue.
- Assist the Director of Philanthropy with other annual fundraising and cultivation events.
- Oversee inquiries from third parties (individuals or organizations) wishing to organize an event or cause marketing campaign to benefit ASK within the Richmond community.
- Make public appearances/speaking opportunities representing ASK.
- Ensure the integrity of the ASK brand and manage approval of all logo usage.
- Support ongoing community relationships for continued beneficiary selection.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising development and special events.
- Management experience for a minimum of 3 years.
- Proficiencyin Google Suite.
- Prior experience with Bloomerang or other fundraising databases preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. In particular, the ability to think creatively and produce compelling, appealing copy for use in collateral and across print and digital formats.
- High degree of comfort working with technology, from database management systems to social media platforms.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, a strong ethical character capable of handling confidential and financial information.
- Ability to lift and/or move large, sometimes heavy objects.
- Ability to travel locally up to 75%; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.
