Position Purpose

The HR Manager (HRM) will provide a broad range of human resources services in support of business objectives, with the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement and retention, productivity and ensuring compliance with company policies, federal and state laws.

 


Under the supervision of the President, the HRM is a year-round working manager position responsible for providing tactical and strategic HR support, facilitating positive employee relations and HRIS system optimization. The HRM will provide leadership and partnership across the American Youth Foundation (AYF), by working closely with the leadership and management teams in all areas of human resource activity, including recruitment and retention, culture and engagement, employee relations, workforce planning and development, talent management, HRIS as well as assuming responsibility for special projects as assigned, developing integrated HR solutions.

 


Essential Functions

  • Partner with organizational leaders to develop, implement and evaluate strategic human resources programs which are consistent with the mission, values, and goals of the AYF.
  • Partner with managers to resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Participate in the creation and delivery of training to all levels of the organization.
  • Build organizational capability through coaching for leadership and management excellence; provide employee support via individual coaching meetings as needed.
  • HRIS optimization of all modules to enhance self-service, reporting, and user experience.
  • Support the assessment of individual and department performance needs and the design, implementation and evaluation of programs that reflect the business objectives of the organization.
  • The HR Manager will help drive and support the advancement of the AYF’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals ensuring all HR processes are aligned to these goals. Evaluate and provide guidance on equitable and inclusive talent processes and practices regarding performance management, giving and receiving feedback, on-boarding, interviewing skills, and management.
  • Solicit employee insights using employee feedback tools such as engagement surveys and/or focus groups to guide business leaders’ actions to result in high levels of employee engagement and commitment. Promotes a positive work culture and develops strategies to improve workplace satisfaction.
  • Perform other projects assigned.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ability to advise on laws and regulations affecting HR practices. Knowledge of HR approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to inform, guide and advise managers in HR-related initiatives.

Preferred Minimum Education, Experience and/or Certification

  • Four-year degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, Master’s preferred.
  • At least 5 - 7 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Significant Employee Relations experience, experience with coaching managers and familiarity with federal and state Employment Laws.
  • Experience with HRIS systems required; familiarity with Bamboo HR and Paychex system preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to mentor other HR professionals.
  • Effective presentation, analytical and critical thinking skills.

 

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily remote work, some travel to sites in Michigan, New Hampshire, and Missouri
  • Potential evening and overnight duty during the peak program season.
