Programs Associate
Job Description
Work for a dynamic organization in the heart of Lincoln Park whose national programs teach youth lifelong skills, inspire the pursuit of knowledge, serve veterans, and transform local communities into healthier and safer places to live.
The Elks National Veterans Service Commission has an opening for a Programs Associate at its headquarters in Chicago. The Programs Associate will provide support for volunteer-led projects that serve veterans in need; to help veterans prevent or exit homelessness.
Requirements: Four-year degree; 1 or more years of experience in the non-profit sector; self-starter with the ability to work independently on multiple projects; excellent people skills; ability to work well with individuals experiencing poverty; and strong attention to detail.
Preferred: Familiarity with veterans’ issues; volunteer management experience; veterans encouraged to apply
Position requires occasional travel to VA Medical Centers and its partner facilities, and to the Elks National Convention (up to one week) annually.
Responsibilities:
- Promote, review, and evaluate applications and reports focused on serving veterans in need in communities across the country.
- Partner directly with Elks members and nonprofit partners to provide supplies and support to veterans in need.
- Cultivate relationships with Elks members and potential volunteers across the country.
- Assist with providing ongoing grant reports regarding program statistics and successes.
- Field inquiries from Elks, veterans, partners, and the general public regarding the Elks programs for veterans.
- Stay abreast of best practices in related program fields, including veterans service, volunteerism, and outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Ensure program goals and objectives are met; demonstrate ability to keep projects moving and on schedule.
- Take a proactive role in problem-solving; communicate issues and problems to Director in a timely manner.
- Tell veterans’ and volunteers’ stories through a variety of media, including social media channels, the Elks website, electronic newsletters, and print publications.
- Serve as a member of the ENVSC team and perform other related duties as assigned.
