Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program will assist with regular weekly, bi-weekly and monthly tutorial data reporting. The Graduate Assistant for review sessions will be required to attend in-service monthly tutor training, prepare educational articles for submission to the National Tutoring Association and OMSE newsletter as well as interact with UMD’s faculty and staff to foster enhanced visibility of OMSE’s services and programs throughout the university.
Data collection, analysis and assessment will be required to be submitted on a weekly basis to the Assistant Director for Academic Outreach and Student Development. The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Review Program will facilitate study sessions up to 6 hours per week, promote, and oversee the coordination of all departmental review sessions.
The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program will also serve as a member of the OMSE/NTA Tutorial Advisory Committee along with the Tutoring Graduate Coordinator and Assistant Director. In keeping with OMSE’s collaborative approach to work, the Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program’s review sessions will also assist with OMSE’s signature annual programs when needed. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Graduate Assistants for the Tutoring Program to assess other needs of the program as they arise, Coordinate requirements and data for Service Learning Certificate Program, as well as any additional related duties as assigned.
Tutoring Data Reporting Requirements
The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program will provide weekly data reports and analysis of the following data sets:
• The number of Review Sessions held per week
• The number of students participating in Review Sessions per week
• The number of students participating in each Review Sessions subject/course per week
• The number of students participating in each individual Tutor’s Review Sessions subject/course per week
• The number of students participating in each individual Tutor’s Review Sessions subject/course daily
• The Graduate Assistant will also provide tutoring assistance to the College Success Scholars (CSS) Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Registered graduate student in a UMCP program
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Experienced with Microsoft Office applications
• Availability for approximately 10 hours of work per week, between 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. M-F
• Should be personable and comfortable assuming leadership roles.
• Good communication skills and must have a demonstrated history working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varied skill levels.
• Patience and respect towards others
• Self-starter, self-motivated and problem solver
• Have strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Demonstrate the ability to be innovative in marketing strategies
• Be detail oriented
• Experienced with computing software such as Microsoft Office/Excel, ELMS and Zoom platforms
· Demonstrated history and experience tutoring undergraduate students.
Additional Information:
• Complete Biweekly Time-sheet
• Submit all required Wufoo, FOFs, and Reporting Forms by deadlines
• Attend OMSE’s Orientation, Staff, 1:1 and GA Meetings; notify Assistant Director immediately of any matters requiring support
• Provide coverage and assist with OMSE’s annual events
• Occasional weekend coverage is required
OMSE is a fast paced student centered office. Staff members will occasionally be required to walk to meetings, carry/transport items for meetings and major events.
